Emma's A Sports Maniac!

Emma has officially begun her first class! We enrolled her in Lil Sports Mania and she had her first class today.

She was so excited.

But she was a tad confused that it was in the dance room. When I asked her last week if she wanted to do dance or sports she promptly chose sports. So telling her we had to go to the dance room instigated a puzzled look.

She was a little unsure at first.

Audrey paid close attention for the first 30 minutes until she passed out in the carrier.

Floor time warm-up. Emma wasn't ready to break out her moves yet ;)

Daddy was there for the first few minutes before he headed off to an appointment. He helped Emma with ball hockey!

We also learned golf, basketball, and played with a parachute!

And at the end of class our proud girl got something very special...

A STAMP!!

How To Make Guacamole Last!

Have you ever bought a tray of guacamole and been unable to use it all at once? Maybe you're like me and you're the only one in your house who likes it. Or maybe you needed some for a recipe and you don't want the rest to go to waste!

That is where my guacamole-saving idea comes into play. I know you'll thank me later. Who likes browned avocado mush in their fridge? Not me!

When I noticed that most guacamole packages say "freeze for later" I attempted this to preserve it but still had to defrost large amounts to enjoy just a little with my chips. So now when I bring a package home I immediately disperse it into small tupperware containers. I also do this if I want to keep some fresh and freeze the rest, or if I didn't finish a tray and don't want the rest to brown!

The Rubbermaid brand is great for this because they have the teeny cups perfect for a serving! (This is NOT a sponsored post)

You can then stack them neatly in your freezer door and walk away.

The next time you have a craving just remove the lid and pop the little container
Into the microwave on "Melt". I usually use the cream cheese or ice cream setting. Otherwise you can just try "Defrost" but I'm microwavably challenged and can never use that function properly.

Have fun and happy munching!

How can I pray for you?

We have been talking about prayer at church for a few weeks now and I have felt it heavy on my heart to ask to pray for others. I really feel like there is someone out there who is needing this, particularly right now.

If I can pray for you in any way, big or small, I would really love to.

You can also ask for an unspoken request. Just to know I can lift you up in some way...

Love & Joy,

What I'm Wearing - Mommy Edition Linkup #3

This link-up was inspired by the "What I Wore Wednesday" posts that everyone does each week.

One day I loved my outfit, but I didn't style it completely because I wasn't going anywhere.

See, I have been making an effort to put on cute outfits as many days as I can each week for myself, but also for my husband. I went out at the end of the year and bought some cute things that made me feel chic and "hip".

As a mother, it is really hard to do these "What I Wore" posts when I don't go anywhere! I wanted to show off my outfit but I hadn't accessorized, done my hair, or chosen shoes.

SO, this link-up was born. Each Wednesday the link-up will open and will stay open until the following Tuesday night. That way if you don't post on Wednesday exactly, you still have the rest of the week to link-up with everyone! I know that I have a hard time remembering to post on a certain day, and with kiddos it's almost impossible to predict how your day will go.

Every picture I post will be raw and real. Hair not styled? Who cares! Is your face make-up-less? Mine too! No shoes? No problem! And don't even WORRY about having high quality photos. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Let's embrace our mommy-hood and have fun showing how we have pulled ourselves together (or not) that day.

I'm Not That Kind of Mom

**Photos of my girls have been removed to protect their digital footprint**

Today I wish I was a cry-it-out mom

                                                                                                                                  ...but I'm not.

Today I wish I was a tough love mom

                                                                                                                                  ...but I'm not.

**Photos of my girls have been removed to protect their digital footprint**

Today I wish I wasn't a TV mom

                                                                                                                                   ...but I am.

Today I wish I was a patient mom

                                                                                                                                  ...but I try to be.

Today I wish I was a cleaning mom

                                                                                                                                   ...but I can't be.

I can't be because my baby is fussy, my toddler won't eat the food I make her, the baby won't nap, the toddler won't play alone...

My house isn't getting clean because I choose to hold my baby through the tears, play with my toddler who will be 15 before I know it, and try not to go crazy between listening to preschool tunes and making snacks.

Maybe someday...

...but today I get to see this:

I Want You To Know I Like You

I have a resolution. It's not a goal. And it has nothing to do with New Years. It's just a resolution.

It also has nothing to do with these photos. We just had fun taking them ;)

**Photos of my girls have been removed to protect their digital footprint**

Everytime I read someone's blog post, I'm going to comment on it.

It's the same concept as the saying "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it...."

You probably know how it goes.

If I read a blog and don't take the time to comment, how will the writer know I'm invested in their words?

I read many blogs daily and don't always comment unless I have something to offer. That's fine, and I'm sure there will be days where I will get interrupted and won't always follow through. But I'd like to try. I'd like you, the blogger, to know I read your thoughts. I want you, the blogger, to know that I took the time.

I want all bloggers to feel appreciated. Old and new, veteran and newbie. Who's with me?

Today we had to go to the Department of Economic Security and also to ASU with Daniel, and anytime I get to go out on errands with my hubby I always use the opportunity to dress well.
And hey, don't knock my maternity jeans. They were first trimester pants and fit!

You Asked, I Answered!

Last week I asked you, my readers, to ask me anything you wanted to know! I had seven wonderful questions, and without making you wait another second, here are my answers!

~~~
Do you have any weight loss tips? I feel so stuck where I am.
Honestly it all starts with how you eat. I am usually vegan when I am not pregnant or nursing, but also due to Audrey's allergies I've had severe limitations on what I can eat. No dairy, soy protein, egg, wheat... that makes the pounds drop off right there!
Being active is huge too. I am not into exercise. I love to dance and try to use my Kinect dance games with my Xbox, but usually I just walk everywhere with the girls. We live right behind the main area of town so I can pile the girls in the stroller/front pack and walk to Barnes and Noble, lunch, small shops, etc. Otherwise I will power-walk around the community park behind my house! If you want to know more specific details about any of this advice please email me.
Do you ever feel like you missed out on life before creating your family?
No, never. It is definitely less convenient to travel or do activities that require a lot of commitment when you have two small children, but no, I don't feel that way at all. When I was four years old I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said "a mommy". As I got older that answer changed to "a wife and a mom". I am very fulfilled where I am at! I will say that I am looking forward to being able to get involved in theater productions soon.
How are you able to afford all of your amazing clothes and shoes? I love your fashion!
Thank you so much! Usually I buy from ThredUp ... trust me, it's amazing. Brand name clothing at ridiculous prices! I'm talking $4-$8 generally for basic brands like Old Navy and Gap. I love it! My most recent haul was a birthday gift of sorts... Forever 21. I do live next to Target and I am guilty of shopping the 70% off rack every time I am there. I consider anything over $6 in the clothing section expensive. My shoes usually come from Target clearance too. I hope that helps!
What are your greatest strengths?
I think this is the kind of question you should be answering for me! I honestly don't know. Truly it would probably be being a mother. And I am good at getting things done (except for house cleaning, HA!).... but if I have a to-do list of random responsibilities and homework I will get it done in no time. Also I am a very loyal friend and unless you do something major I will be your friend to the end, no matter the distance.
How many kids are you hoping for?!
Well, we always said 3 or 4. We were going to have 3 biologically and then adopt a 4th if we felt like we could manage another.
Do you want more kids? :)
This answer is related to the above question.... honestly I think we might be done at 2 kids! If we have more it will be in the far, far future. I think we are good for now.
Why is it that you decided to have kids before you finished school? Not that I don't respect the decision, I'm just wondering how you made it.We didn't. Funny enough, Emma was a surprise! I was on birth control when we found out we were pregnant with her and Daniel was a senior in college. I actually wasn't attending college until I was about to have Emma. I chose to go to school for personal reasons, but having kids was supposed to start happening this year or next year. After Emma happened we decided we would wait five years to have another so that Daniel was done with his Ph.D...Once we had Emma and she turned a year we decided not to wait five years because we didn't want them that far apart.
~~
I so enjoyed your questions! If you have any other ones for me leave them in the comments or email me!
An Ache I Must Share
I am taking a "Intro to Writing Poetry" class this semester and this week was the first week we had to submit our poems for critique. I am extremely insecure about writing poetry and fiction comes easier. Regardless of that I thought I should push myself to share it with you all to help me get over my fear of the impending critiques this coming week. Even though poetry is meant to often be vague, my professor had specific instructions for this one, and it is about my father.
The brown, dusty dirt street is littered with his footprints,
I didn’t know it would be the last time mine would join his.
Sweet scents fill my nostrils as we walk into the shop by the fort,
my eyes drawn to the colorful treats in the jars.
I am unaware of these special moments,
they pass quickly and I cannot keep up.
He hands me the black jelly beans from his calloused hands,
their bitter taste in my mouth reflects what will transpire.
I will never come back to Old Town,
filled with its wooden beams and paned windows.
As we walk along San Diego Avenue his figure begins to fade,
cancer comes like a tornado and he’s taken from me.
I am left with black jelly beans in my hand,
bittersweet remnants of regret.
Thank you for reading it and I hope it wasn't too painful! It is incredibly emotional for me to use this topic but I needed something deep and difficult for the assignment. Poetry really brings out the ache in one's soul, which is a reality I wish I had known before choosing to write about my dad. It's easier to rationalize your emotions when writing stories because you have no limits on how much you share.
